James Nussbaum was born in Wash. State in 1923. He enlisted in the Army on December 4, 1942 at Tacoma, Wash. At the time of enlistment he had completed four years of high school and was unmarried. Nussbaum joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. and was assigned to Company K of the 87th Infantry Division, but later served with the 10th Mountain Reconnaissance Troop, the Mountain Training Group, and Company E of the 85th Infantry Regiment. He was sent to Camp Swift, Tex. before service in Italy. On February 22, 1945, Nussbaum was wounded in action at Mt. Della Torraccia. He attained the rank of Sergeant.
