Born in Quincy, Ill., on 18 Apr. 1885; after graduation from Harvard in 1906, he came to Tacoma, Wash., where he engaged in logging and investing in logging operations and timberlands. In the 1920s, he began investing in securities and commodities. In 1943, he dealt in small tracts of timberland in southern Oregon, as part of a joint venture with J.H. Gilpin and Byron Scott, both of Tacoma. The joint venture status was questioned by the IRS, and a lengthy legal battle ensued, which was won by McFadon, Gilpin, and Scott.
