Samuel Ruggles Aiken was born on October 28, 1803 in Hardwick, Massachusetts to John and Sarah Aiken. Before 1869, Samuel Ruggles Aiken headed to the Western United States with fellow pioneers and settled in Utah. In 1871, he was the recorder of city council minutes for Spring City, Utah which had been incorporated in 1870 from its original name of Spring Town. While Aiken was a member of the city council, he also worked on his farm with his family. He later died in Spring City on December 15, 1896.
