Sir Robert Ker Porter, brother of the novelists Anna Maria and Jane, was an artist, soldier, writer, and diplomat. He married a Russian princess, spent much time in Russia, and from 1817-1820 toured extensively in Southern Russia and Persia. From these journeys came his "Travels in Georgia, Persia, Armenia, Ancient Babylonia, 1817-20," in 2 volumes, 1821.
