St. Louis merchant, fur trader, and politician.

Educated in St. Louis and Georgetown, Ky., Bernard Pratte Jr. entered into business with his father, who was engaged in general merchandising and fur trading in partnership with Pierre Chouteau Jr. (Bernard Pratte and Company; Pratte, Chouteau and Company). The younger Pratte later formed the mercantile firm of Pratte and Cabanné, and served as mayor of St. Louis and as a member of the Missouri legislature.
