Mann, Thomas C. (Thomas Clifton), 1912-
Variant namesThomas Clifton Mann (1912-1999) was born in Laredo, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University in 1934, and from 1934 to 1942, worked as a lawyer on Laredo, Texas. In 1942, Mann joined the Diplomatic Service of the U.S. Department of State, and held various diplomatic posts in Europe, Latin America, and Washington, D.C., through 1955. From 1955 to 1957, Mann served the post of U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. From October 1957 to August 1960, he served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, and from August 1960 to January 1961 served as Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs. From 1961 to 1966 Mann again held various diplomatic posts in Latin America and Washington, D.C. He resigned from the Department of State in June 1966.
