Hyde-Coffin family.
Hyde family originated in Massachusetts. Documents of Dr. John Angier Hyde and Dr. Ephraim A. Hyde form bulk of collection. These include Constitution of Massachusetts Medical Society (1804). Correspondence indicates presence of family member at Andersonville, Ga. Prison during Civil War. Hyde family members eventually settled in San Francisco and Marin County, Calif. Abel Coffin was a ship's captain based in Boston, Mass. Collection contains his sailing and trading instructions (1833), as well as numerous letters written to his wife while at sea.
