St. Paul Lutheran Church (Fairfield, Mont.)

Hide Profile

St. Paul Lutheran was organized in a log cabin on May 16, 1910 under the direction of Rev. A. G. Lunde, a circuit rider from Great Falls. There were 45 members. Services were held in homes and schools for the next five years, and the church was started on November 14, 1915. Services were initially conducted in Norwegian.

A portion of this growing congregation formed Grace Lutheran of Fairfield in 1941. Since then these two churches have been known as the Fairfield parish, with one pastor serving both congregations.

In 1949 the church was modernized. A full basement was put under the church and the chancel enlarged. The parsonage, which was shared with Grace Lutheran, was built in 1938 and replaced with a new one in 1957.
