Rubin, Joseph Jay, 1912-1980
Variant namesNoted Walt Whitman scholar Joseph J. Rubin (1912-1980) received a M.A. from Penn State in 1933 and a doctorate from Yale in 1940. He joined the Penn State English Department in 1935, and served as a professor of American literature, retiring in 1978. Rubin started the Bald Eagle Press in 1950, an important influence on the founding of the Penn State Press.
