The Goss Military Institute was founded as a private institution in 1891. In 1893 a legislative act declared the Institute to be a educational institution of the Territory of New Mexico and changed the name to New Mexico Military Institute (1893 Laws of N.M., Chp. 41, Sec. 1). The Institute has levels of instruction from high school through junior college. It is located in Roswell, New Mexico.
