McIntosh, James McQueen, 1828-1862

Brig. General James McQueen McIntosh, CSA (1828-1862) was of the McIntosh family of McIntosh County, Georgia, a descendant of Col. William McIntosh. He was the son of Colonel James Simmons McIntosh, USA (1787-1848) who was mortally wounded at the battle of Molino del Rey in the Mexican War. Gen. James M. McIntosh commanded the cavalry unit of General Ben McCulloch's wing of General Earl Van Dorn's army at Elkhorn on March 7, 1862, where both he and McCulloch were killed. He is buried at the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
