Tyrone Pitts, an ordained minster of the American Baptist Church, received his B.S. from Virginia State College and his M. Div. from Colgate Rochester Divinity School of Crozer Theological Seminary in Rochester, New York. From 1980 to 1989, Pitts served as the Director for Racial Justice for the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (NCC). Prior to his work at NCC Pitts served as Director of the Mutual Assistance Minority Program of the American Baptist Church and as an Associate Minister of Church Mission at the Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. He also worked as a teacher-counselor in the Rochester, New York school district.
