William R. Richardson was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. General William R. Richardson was born in China on March 25, 1929. He graduated from the U.S. Army Military Academy (USMA) in 1951 and saw combat duty in the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He served as an instructor, U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia, and at USMA; on the Department of the Army Staff; as Deputy Commanding General U.S. Army Training Center, Fort Leonard Wood; as Assistant Commandant, U.S. Army Infantry School; as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (DCSOPS), Headquarters, Department of the Army (1981-1983); and as Commander, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) (1983-1986). He retired in 1986.
