Rev. Caleb Smith (1723-1762), a Presbyterian minister, was born in Brookhaven, Long Island. He attended Yale and graduated in 1743, four years later in 1747 he was licensed by the New York Presbytery. Rev. Smith was ordained the next year. It appears that he spent most of his career as a minister in Newark Mountain, now Orange, New Jersey.
