Born in Fairfield, Herkimer Co., N.Y. Dec. 6, 1798, son of Maj. William and Hannah (Sherwood) Satterlee. Licensed to practice medicine In 1818, and removed to Seneca Co., and soon after to Detroit where he became asst. surgeon in U. S. army, Feb. 25, 1822. There, June, 1827, he married Mary S. Runt. During the Seminole he served under Zachary Taylor; in Mexican War part in siege of Vera Cruz and Mexico City. Was medical director on Gen. Scott's staff. In 1832 was a major in 1853 medical surveyor in which capacity he served in the Civil War. He as brevetted lieut. col. and brig. gen. He was in charge of the medical supply dept in N.Y.C. until his retirement in 1389. He died, Nov. 10, 1880 (Dict. Am. Biog.) (Blue index cards)
