The Center for International Affairs was established in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 1958. Its principal objectives are to promote an interest in international affairs at Harvard and to encourage basic research on major problems in the field of international affairs.

The Center for International Affairs was established in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 1957 to promote advanced research and training in the field of foreign affairs. The Development Advisory Service, which existed from 1962-1974, was an affiliate of the Center. An earlier body, the Bureau of International Research of Harvard University and Radcliffe College, had been established in 1924.
