Charaka Club.

Hide Profile

The Charaka Club was formed with a gathering in November 1898 and was simply known as a medico-historico-social club that discussed a range of subjects involving fields like medicine, medical history, literature, poetry. This club was founded by a group of four doctors, Charles. L. Dana, [Joseph Collins, Frederick Peterson and Bernard Sachs]. In the eighth meeting of the club held in January 1900, Sachs presented a paper on Hindu medicine in which he said that Charaka was the oldest medicine man and priest whose works were still extant. Since then the group began functioning under the name "The Charaka Club". In the meeting of April 1900 the name was officially adopted and it was included in the club's seal in 1901. Its volumes of papers were published by Paul B. Hoeber, New York, in 1919, 1925, 1931.
