David M. Hickok was born in Mt. Vernon, New York, on October 7, 1924. He received a bachelor's degree from the New York State College of Forestry, Syracuse University, in 1947. His professional positions have included: President's Review Committee for Alaska (1965-1966), Planning Officer for Natural Resources, Federal Field Committee for Development Planning in Alaska (1966-1970), Director, Sea Grant Program, University of Alaska (1970-1975), and Director, Arctic Environmental Information and Data Center, University of Alaska (1972-1988). Offices held include: Chairman, Interagency Technical Committee for Alaska (1970-1971), Chairman Interagency Alaska Ecological Reserves Council (1977-1979), Member, Polar Research Board, National Research Council, National Academy of Science (1977-1980), President, Arctic Division, American Association for the Advancement of Science (1978), Chairman, Alaska Council on Science and Technology (1982-1983), President, Alaska Academy of Engineering and Sciences (1982-1987), and Chairman, Council on Natural Resources Information Management (1986-1987).
