O'Brien, Johnny, 1851-1931
Variant namesDynamite Johnny O'Brien was born in Cork, Ireland. In 1866 he ran away to sea, eventually landing in N.Y. where he earned his Ship Master's Certificate. He married Emily Showers in 1878 and spent most of his life captaining ships in Alaskan waters. He wrote the three journals between 1928 and 1930.
