José-Maria de Heredia was born in Cuba and educated at the Sorbonne. His single published volume of poetry, Les Trophées, was universally praised. Despite recognition as a poet's poet, his sonnets were so immaculate that they were nearly impossible to duplicate, and thus his influence on other poets has been negligible.
From the description of José-Maria de Heredia poems, ca. 1890. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 52615719
