Shipbuilder and mayor of Seattle, Washington

Born 1857 in New York City, Robert Moran served as mayor of Seattle and acquired a large estate on Orcas Island, much of which he donated to be turned into a state park. Moran was mayor from 1888 to 1890, during the great fire that destroyed much of the city. In 1904 he retired to his Rosario estate on Orcas Island. Before his death in 1933, Moran deeded much of his land to the state, which turned it into Moran State Park.
