The Florida State University Alumni Association, established in 1909, is dedicated to serving the university and communicating effectively with alumni and friends to build and sustain support. The Association supports alumni chapters throughout the United States, maintains alumni records, coordinates receptions and classrooms, and produces the annual Homecoming event. In addition to these activities, it publishes and distributes various publications, on behalf of out of state FSU alumni groups, such as out of state alumni football newsletters.

To keep FSU alumni informed through its mailings, the Florida State University Alumni Association published its Alumni Comment newsletter four times a year. Publication began about 1965, since the journal is first described in the 1965-1966 FSU Bulletin, and ceased in 1973. According to a note in the collection from Sara Coulter (September 1969), an Alumni Office staff member, the Alumni Comment superceded the Alumni Bulletin, a quarterly publication, also published by the FSU Alumni Association.
