Abraham Maricle was born in Binghamton, New York, in 1826. He enlisted as a private in the Minnesota 1st Sharpshooters in 1861 and in 1863 Company A of the 1st Minnesota Battalion. He mustered out July 14, 1865. For the next two years he worked in the Elk River, Minnesota, area cutting wood. In the summer of 1867 he joined Peter B. Davy's wagon train in St. Cloud, Minnesota. They arrived in Helena, Montana, in October 1867. For a few years Maricle worked as a wood cutter in the Helena and Philipsburg areas, and eventually returned to Elk River, Minnesota, where he died October 15, 1879.
