Henry Lueg emigrated from Germany in 1861. He served with 21st New York Reigiment of volunteers and he was honorably discharged after serving two years in the civil war. He lived in Cincinnati, St. Louis and Nashville before settling in St. Paul. From St. Paul, he joined the Davy Emigration party, which made the journey to Portland, Oregon. He settled in Portland, where he worked as a machinist.
