Charles Grant was born in Kidderpore, Bengal in 1778. Educated at Magdalane College Cambridge he served as MP for the borough of Inverness and Fortrose between 1811-1818. In 1827 he was president of the Board of Trade and in 1835 Colonial Secretary. He died in Cannes in 1866
