Winyah Indigo Society
Variant namesAgricultural and social club of Georgetown, S.C.; founded Mar. 1755; incorporated in 1757, for the purpose of erecting a free school at Georgetown, S.C.; by 1799, the Society sponsored the organization of the Georgetown Library Society, a group tasked with purchasing books and securing newspapers and gazettes from London and as well as centers of trade in the United States such as Boston, New York, Richmond, and Savannah.
