Country performer, radio and film star, and songwriter. Born September 6, 1911. Died June 4, 1994. Began his career specializing in cowboy songs and yodeling. His film credits include the voice of Bashful in Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and numerous B-grade Westerns. His songwriting credits include the 1944 top country song of the year, "Smoke on the Water" (recorded by Red Foley). Member, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
