Charles Jesse Strang was the son of Elvira Field and James Jesse Strang, Mormon "King" of Beaver Island. (Field was Strang's second wife.) Their son Charles was born on April 5, 1851. Charles married Harriet Eliza Wight, and they had nine children. Eight children lived to adulthood. (Their daughter Nina was killed by a train on July 21, 1894.) Strang published The Charlevoix Journal from 1883 to 1890, and was the Charlevoix postmaster in 1884 and 1885. His 1916 obituary gives "printer" as the description of his life's work. The 1882 diary in this collection indicates that Charles, who was not a Mormon, considered his father an intelligent fraud. Charles Jesse Strang died on February 1, 1916.
