St. Louis Post-Graduate School of Medicine and Polyclinic.

Hide Profile

St. Louis Post-Graduate School of Medicine and Polyclinic was founded in 1884 to provide training in medical specialities beyond the level given in regular medical school curricula and also to operate a hospital for the treatment of indigent patients. The school functioned as an independent institution only until 1890, when it merged with MMC. A six-week "post-graduate" term beginning in April continued to be offered under the former school name until 1898.

Teaching and hospital care were housed in a two and one-half story building constructed for the enterprise at the southwest corner of Jefferson and Lucas Avenues. The faculty, who were legally chartered as an "association," were virtually the same physicians who owned and operated nearby Missouri Medical College.
