Sir Thomas Gresham was a prominent Elizabethan financial figure who served as a royal agent for Edward VI, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth in the Netherlands. Sir Thomas was instrumental in raising money in the Lowlands, Germany and Spain for the Crown; in importing war materials from the Continent; and for suggesting a plan to stabilize British currency.
Gresham is best known as the creator of a monetary stablization scheme known as Gresham's Law, "bad money drives good money out of circulation."
