David Gordon, an officer of the Royal Highland Infantry, was engaged in the siege of Louisbourg in 1758.

One of the strongest French bases in North America, Louisbourg guarded the entrance to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. However, on July 26, 1758 it was captured from the French by a British combined force under Admiral Boscawen and General Amherst.
