Kate Greenaway (1946-1901) was a noted English illustrator of children's books and greeting cards. She began studying art at the age of seven and attained runaway success with works published in the 1870s, 1880s, and 1890s. Discouraged by widespread piracy and imitation of her work, Greenaway gave up children's book illustration in the late 1890s.

From the description of Kate Greenaway papers, 1868-1969 [manuscript]. (University of Southern Mississippi, Regional Campus). WorldCat record id: 711780436

English illustrator and author.

From the guide to the Kate Greenaway Manuscripts, 1896, (Special Collections Research Center, Syracuse University Libraries)

Kate Greenaway was an enormously successful and popular Victorian artist. Her distinctive and influential watercolor style made her one of the best-selling artists of children's books in her day. Despite a late career slump and her own misgivings, her delicate line, attention to detail, and the images of wan, strangely dispirited children cavorting in an idealized English countryside have ensured continuing popularity for her work.

From the description of Kate Greenaway letters, 1891, n.d. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 54314476
