The Office of Hospital Public Relations was established in 1967 in University Hospital, a unit of the University of Alabama and later the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Renamed the Office of Hospital Information Coordinator in 1978, the Office is responsible for all internal and external public relations activities at University Hospital and provides information to the news media about the people, activities, and events of University Hospital. John L. Wright became the first director in 1967. Hank Black succeeded him in 1985.
