Biographical Note
Edwin A. Halsey was born Sept. 4, 1881, near Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was appointed a page in the press gallery of the United States Senate, 1897. After advancing through a series of increasingly responsible positions in the Senate and within the Democratic Party, Halsey served a secretary-treasurer of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee from the 1920s to 1944 and was elected secretary of the Senate in 1933. Halsey died in Washington, D.C., Jan. 29, 1945.
