Born in New Orleans, Charles Laveau Trudeau (aka Carlos Trudeau) was chosen to be surveyor general of Spanish Louisiana in the early 1780s and served in that capacity to 1805. After the Louisiana Purchase, he elected to remain in Louisiana and become a United States citizen.
