The Morse family was one of the early pioneer families in present-day Bellingham, Washington.

In 1875, R. I. (Robert I.) Morse moved from Waterville, Maine to San Francisco, California, where he met and married his first wife, Etta Fowler (1861-1906), with whom he had five children. In 1884, R.I. Morse moved with his family to Bellingham Bay, where he founded the successful Morse Hardware Company in the town of Sehome (now Bellingham), Washington. Morse married his second wife, Ada C. (Margaret Chisolm) Morse in 1909, with whom he had three children. R. I. Morse remained president of the Morse Hardware Company until his death in 1920.
