Lewis Green is a native of Haywood County, North Carolina. He worked as a journalist, began various newspaper and journal publications (The native stone, Overtones, Independent torch), authored several books (The year of the swan, And scatter the proud, The high pitched laugh of a painted lady, The silence of snakes, and Spirit bells) and worked as an educator in various North Carolina educational institutions. In 2000, he was excommunicated from the Episcopal Church in part due to remarks in The independent torch.
