Stamford College (Stamford, Tex.)
Stamford Collegiate Institution was founded in 1906 by the Methodist church at Stamford, Texas. In 1911, name was changed to Stamford College. The school burned in 1918 and was not rebuilt. Rev. James Winford Hunt, president of Stamford University, was instrumental in the founding of McMurry College in Abilene, in 1923.
