The State Textbook Purchasing Board was created in 1939 (Ch. 19355, Laws) to assume the duties of the State Textbook Commission (1911, Ch. 6178, Laws). It met annually in February to act on the recommendations of the State Dept. of Education textbook committee to adopt selected textbooks for use in the public schools and to contract for their purchase. In 1969, the Board was abolished and the recommendations of the Dept. of Education textbook committee were submitted to the State Board of Education (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
