Claude Emerson Welch, 1906-1996, AB, 1927, Doane College; AM, 1928, Unviersity of Missouri; MD, 1932, Harvard Medical School, was named Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School in 1937, and became Clinical Professor of Surgery in 1964. He joined the surgery staff at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1937, where he served as Chief of the Tumor Clinic from 1957 to 1966. Welch performed the first vein graft at Massachusetts General Hospital.
