George Joachim Goschen was a British statesman and financier. He entered business in his father's firm, and secured a directorship in the Bank of England at an early age. He entered the House of Commons as a representative from London, later becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer and entering the House of Lords. He was a well-respected man, a strong liberal, and an effective and popular speaker.
