Joseph G. Brennan, professor of philosophy and comparative literature, was a graduate of Boston College and received an M.A. from Harvard University and a Ph. D. from Columbia University. He was chairman of the Philosophy Department at Barnard College and taught at the Naval War College from 1978 to 1992.
