Robert Hamill Nassau was born in Montgomery Square, Pennsylvania on October 11, 1835. He was educated at Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He served as a missionary to Africa from 1861-1906, preaching and practicing medicine in Corisco, Benita, Gabon, Batanga, Ogooué (Ogowe), Kângwe and Talaguga. Following his retirement in 1906, Nassau authored many books and articles. He died on May 6, 1921.
