Church gathered in 1825 as Hanover Street Church in the North End; in 1830, during the pastorate of Lyman Beecher, the meeting house burned and church voted to move to Bowdoin Street on Beacon Hill; Bowdoin Street Church dissolved in 1863 and building sold to Church of the Advent (Episcopal). In 1981, St. John the Evangelist (Cowley Fathers, Episcopal).
