Hubby, Nancy
Nancy L. Hubby (1937-2003) was one of the three "Founding Mothers" of the Chestnut Hill Historical Society, along with Anne Spaeth and Shirley Hanson.
Hubby was a graduate of George School and received bachelor's degrees from Wellesley College and Yale University. In 1972, she earned a master's degree in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently worked for two Philadelphia architectural firms as director of planning.
She was instrumental in saving the Veterans of Foreign Wars building in Chestnut Hill, which led to the founding of the Chestnut Hill Historical Society the following year in 1967. Hubby contributed to the book Chestnut Hill: An Architectural History, published in 1969, and co-wrote the 1983 book Preserving and Maintaining the Older Home. In 1986, Hubby received the "Chestnut Hill Award" from the Chestnut Hill Community Association in recognition of her work.
