Serra, Joseph Benedict, 1810-1886
Variant namesPioneer Catholic prelates. Serra was the Superior of the Benedictine missionaries brought to W.A. by Bishop Brady for the purpose of evangelising the Aborigines. With Dom Salvado, he established New Norcia as a centre for the mission. From 1852-1861, he was Bishop of Perth. Gibney was Bishop of Perth from 1887-1910.
