Friends of the River Foundation
Friends of the River was founded in 1973 as an outgrowth of the campaign to stop the construction of the New Melones Dam on the Stanislaus River in California. FOR's headquarters are in Sacramento. The organization's primary activities are grassroots organizing, public outreach and education, and working on behalf of water policy legislation throughout California.
