The foci of the collection indicate the collector's interests in Manhattan during important historical eras, including the colonial and Revolutionary eras in Manhattan and the construction of Central Park in the 1860's.
The collection also indicates the collector's interest in properties in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx that were being broken up in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries from great estates into small residential and commercial parcels, very often with mid-town Manhattan as their universal center point.
