Buckner, Washington P.
Midshipman aboard the U.S.S. Constitution during its voyage around the world, 1844-1847, on a mission to show the flag and promote U.S. commerce.
Born in Kentucky and appointed an officer in the navy in 1841 from Arkansas, Washington P. Buckner served as midshipman, passed midshipman, master, lieutenant, and commander during his quarter-century naval career.
