James Busby, 1801-1871, viticulturist and civil servant, migrated to New South Wales, 1824. Viticulture was his main interest. In 1832 he was appointed British Resident in New Zealand and remained in New Zealand until his death.

Arrived in New South Wales in 1824, where he established himself as a pioneer viticulturist and was appointed Collector of Internal Revenue. After returning to Europe in 1831, he eventually settled at the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, in 1833.
